Big Brother 12 Cast
For the last 11 years Julie Chen has been inviting an eclectic mix of house guests into the Big Brother House. The ultimate goal is to outlast 12 other house guests and have them vote you the winner of the $500,000 prize. The contestants face over two months of no contact with the outside world as well as food, luxury, and head of household competitions. All of the activities can be viewed three times a week with a live feed available for the die hard fans to see what happens before the regular show airs.
This year promises to be full of entertaining TV drama and competition. There are of course your cast of stereotypical characters. You have the jock, the meat head, the princess, the gay guy, the ditsy blond, the old fart, and the closet genius. The big twist in Season 12 is the addition of a saboteur. This person’s sole purpose is to cause as much chaos in the house as possible while lasting at least to the halfway point. If they did they would receive $50,000 and drop out of the competition for the $500,000. The saboteur would plant noise devices to keep the contestants awake or padlock the food pantry to piss everyone off and put them on edge.
I found the saboteur was a really poor attempt at a twist for the game. The chaos that was caused was nonexistent and was little more than a nuisance. It was essentially renaming “Americas Player” from past seasons that would act as the viewers voted them to. As it was the player that was the saboteur came into the house with no idea how to use the position they were given and was voted out first. Thus ended the big twist for the season.
That being said, Big Brother is still one of the most entertaining reality shows still on TV, having survived for 12 seasons. I like the fact that the show is on three days a week versus the typical one hour so you do get to learn a lot more about the personalities in the house. You see the gameplay evolve and the politics of how the successful players make their way to the end. Big Brother belongs to my holy trilogy of Reality TV(Big Brother, Amazing Race, Survivor). For that reason I would recommend it to anyone with even the slightest interest in reality TV or strategy games.
