It seems like there’s a hodgepodge of issues going on right now, at least in my universe of entertainment. Here’s my list:
1. The Playstation Network - Yes, if you follow other media sites, then you have probably seen this a million times. That’s why I’m getting it out of the way. I normally wouldn’t have an issue with the PSN being down anytime before as I’m not a multiplayer gamer. I’m not that good at first person shooters, and even worse at driving games. But there’s one game that I wanted to play with my friends: Portal 2. I wouldn’t have even played the game without their recommendation, and now that I’ve got the opportunity to play with them, no luck.
Penny Arcade nailed it with a political cartoon.
Suggestion: Really Sony, still? Why the lies and lack of commitment? If you’re still a braggart after this they’ll get you again.
2. Crossover Comics - I’m devoted to comics, but I’ve gotten in a good routine about which ones I buy. I don’t mind finding new writers, independent stories, or special story arcs involving a mini series. The ones that bother me are the crossover events. These comics make you read three or four different series in order to get the whole story. It’s not an issue if you read these, but if you don’t, then you are stuck buying those issues. The X-Men issues are famous for this. As much as I want to enjoy those titles the continuous crossovers are killing me.

Curse you Green Lantern for buying titles I no longer want.
Suggestion: Make mini series issues. If you include characters in the story outside of the major groups and make them engaging, then readers will follow.
3. Death in Comics - While I’m talking about comics, death in comics is useless. One of the benefits of independent comics is that the characters are rarely respawned. I get it – your mainstream comics have been around for 50 years. That’s great that you’ve been able to carry on that story, but can we commit to killing characters off for at least a few years?

Exception: The Paradox: He stays dead and they do everything to make sure she’s alive.
Suggestion: Create characters that you want to kill off or set a timeline in which a character cannot exist. No one wants to go through the death of Superman or Captain America because they know they’ll be back in six months.
4. 3DS and Other Droughts – Damn you Nintendo. Damn you for selling a system to me with great ideas and purpose and have NOTHING out for a few months. I’m pretty sure that’s not how to sell a console, particularly a handheld. I finished PilotWings in a couple of weeks, and nothing is interesting to play. Another issue that goes in hand with this deals with release of games on the consoles. Can’t you stagger out games based on genre?

They might as well shipped these until they get their lineup straight.
Suggestion: Have your folks in merchandising and marketing decide on when games should be released, or at least have some input with the game developers. Most of them are releasing cross platform for all of their titles, so the drought is consistent.
5. i-Connectivity - Got an iPhone? How about an iPad? Pretty cool, right? From what I understood it to be was the next level of personal computers. And while they’ve done a great job, they haven’t eliminated the desktop or laptop. I still need to plug in these items in order to sync. Even worse, I have to plug it in to upgrade. Is it really necessary to do that?

Inviting, but that missing piece is keeping me from going for the entire fruit.
Suggestion: You are one of the most profitable companies on the planet, yet your methodology is to replicate everyone else. Change the playing field and start coming up with fresh ideas that your competitors will take years to develop.
Got something you’d like to get off your chest? Let me know!
